Dr.
Salerni began practicing Neurosurgery in New Hampshire in 1989
and became a diplomat of the American Board of Neurosurgery in
1992. In 1978 be graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree
in Chemistry from the University of Vermont. After earning his
Medical Degree from the University of Vermont in 1982, he completed
his internship and served as a resident in Internal Medicine at
Boston University affiliated hospitals. His residency training
in Neurosurgery commenced in 1984 and was completed in the Brown
University program in 1989. During this training he enlisted in
the US Army Reserve and subsequently served as an Officer in the
Medical Corps during the Gulf War.
Dr.
Salerni is the author of a number of articles in surgical journals
as well as having authored a chapter in the text book Operative
Techniques in Neurosurgery. In addition to serving as an assistant
instructor in neuroanatomy at the University of Vermont and clinical
neuroscience instructor at Brown University, he has been an Acute
Trauma Life Support instructor as well as a visiting instructor
at the Notre Dame College. From the start, the bulk of his practice
has been devoted to the treatment of complex spinal disorders.
Since 1997, his interests have shifted almost exclusively to the
management of disease of the spine. Through participation in continuing
medical education courses, he has served on the foreguard in the
use of image-guided surgery, endoscopic spinal procedures and
spinal implants.
Dr.
Salerni's memberships in medical organizations include the Congress
of Neurosurgery, American Association of Neurological Surgery
and the New Hampshire Medical Society.
Dr.
Salerni's interests outside medicine are varied. In addition to
being a pilot, he is a builder of an experimental aircraft. Other
interests include nature and close up photography as well as outdoor
activities.
